This is my journal with thoughts, sketches and images of works in progress. Elephants, doilies and Polar Coordinates is the ongoing title I use for my practice and specially for work in the making.
Elephants for my interest in the exotic, in souvenirs, in the unknown, and in the symbolism of animals. Doilies for the domestic, the meaning of home, habitat, private space, familiarity, but also for the emotional relation with establish with our memorabilia and the power of kitsch. Polar Coordinates for the journey, being away from home, moving, being a passer-by, remoteness and distance, extreme distance, extreme landscape, maps, loss, dislocation, being lost between home and elsewhere.
Those are the themes that inform my practice everyday, the things that I am interested in. I intend to reflect in this journal not only my own creative process but also found images, texts or films that have somehow been very important to me and the way my brain works…
